The matrix.org homeserver has been struggling with load over the last 24h (thanks perhaps to Slack for driving users our way: arstechnica.com/tech-policy/20) - we're working on fixing performance. There is a work ongoing to have public servers listed on matrix.org website. Clients could use the list.
