I am starting to think about getting a "Blackbird Secure Desktop" by Raptor Engineering.
That would mean that I would abandon x86 and more over to the POWER architecture. I currently see no real issue here (except for the cost) because the Linux-distros I use works for that architecture.
And also, the fact of NOT running x86 is quite nice too
@selea I've been tempted as well, but what I'd really like is a POWER9 laptop with a decent keyboard (for Thinkpad T60 values of decent).
That would be really nice. Apple managed to have POWER-based laptops before so I assume it is not impossible today either
@selea And you're getting POWER. Just the name itself is a good reason to get one. I'm thinking about getting a really fast SGI or SUN box to keep on my desk instead. Just because.
Oh yes! :D
Does SGI still make machines? I thought they stopped in the 90's
@selea They did. Still coolest workstations ever.
@selea you opened up another rabbit hole for me
@selea initial thought: how does POWER9 compare to ARM platforms for personal use
Well ARM get's alot more attention because it is _VERY_ much affordable compared to POWER9.
POWER9 does have higher performance thou, while ARM focuses on being effective.
@selea I see the price tag of IBM POWER9 processor, I'll hold on to my Rock64 then 😅
If I had three kidneys, I know what I would trade it with
@selea what about running x86-based virtual machines?
I have dedicated machines for that :)
You mean like this? https://mobile.twitter.com/runlevel__5/status/1242409445205798912 :-)
