Against Intellectual Property

anarchobook.club/018.html

Today we explore the book Against Intellectual Property by Stephen Kinsella.

Then a few minutes in we go off the rails talking about corporate protections and the like. [p.s. I have personal experience with this]

Let me know what you think? What is your input about this topic?

My dream for Mastodon is for it to be a viable choice as a publishing platform for any creator. In other words, for people to not feel like they're locked in to Twitter or Instagram if they want to be professionally successful.

Watched the documentary /theSocialDilema_ on Netflix yesterday. Not everything was new to me that was told there but... DAMN!

Google is apparently taking down all/most fediverse apps from Google play

A client of the company I work for is hiring an on-site sysadmin, and I'm tasked with showing him/her around the IT environment.
Now here is the kicker; I've never done any work for this particular client and know nothing about their environment, so I'm grasping at every bit of documentation I can find so I can bluff my way through tomorrow. Wish me luck. :ohgno: #sysadmin

Basically, I think programming is one of the best skills in 2020, and people vastly underestimate their ability to do it. It’s not about being smart enough, it’s about having the patience to work through the challenges without giving up. Not even a degree can help you with that. It’s normal and expected to think “I’m not cut out for this,” but if you have the drive to continue, there are really no barriers. You need a laptop and an internet connection, that’s about it. It doesn’t even have to be a good laptop, and it could be Starbucks WiFi. Not only is it the best alternative to college, it gives you power to shape the world.

Last month, I decided to start a journal/diary, so I programmed this CLI journaling tool I call JRNY in Python 3. Now that I've added all the basic features, I'm working on making it into an actual, configurable FOSS program so that someone besides me can use it. I've never done that before so right now I'm aimlessly scouring the net, reading docs about config file generation, how to create setup.py files, and stuff like that. I'll figure it out eventually! 😀

Hello World! This is my first attempt to use social media again after deleting almost all my "mainstream" social media accounts 2-3 years ago. So which of the following are you still using?
