This may seem strange, but I'm wondering if anyone in the fediverse has any experience running Veracrypt containers on 3.5 inch floppy disks? If so, what was your experience?

@jordyd Yeah! There's multiple levels of comparison imo. You can compare apples to orange when talking about which fruit you like better. You can compare apples to apples when talking about what variety of apple you like best. You can compare airplanes to apples when talking about the lexicographical ordering of words beginning with "a"

I don't want websites and the companies that own them to manipulate me into staying longer. I don't want them actively attempting to exploit weaknesses in my brain. I don't want to be controlled.

I just want to have interests. And I just want to live a humble life. And I want to make sure that those around me are happy and healthy.

This "value"-hungry network of companies have to be stopped.

Maybe people change workflows too. Like before critical mass is acheived for caching, people would probably request a few articles, go away, and then read later.
Even when critical mass is acheived, for real time events like the news, the above would happen.

Has anyone done real research on how interplanetary internet access would work with those latencies?

And idk how tls or any auth that requires multiple back and forths would work. Content based addressing would prob really be needed. Which makes me wonder, was ipfs designed with this in mind?

Show thread

Internet access would be totally different when a request takes 30-40 mins to fulfill. Probably *aggressive* caching and IPFS like sharing with local nodes will be required.

Workflows for the astronauts would be different too, like all standard html css is depencies should be resolved with the original request.

Dream job idea: interplanetary IT and security. For when ppl actually go to mars/moon long term and need to be connected to the internet, which should prob happen soon after I graduate college

age poll (don't open its fucking huge it will probably break your browser)

how old are you? i have included every age, the max range being the age of the oldest person ever recorded plus one and then over, so everyone's age should be on here :)

I wish teachers taught us how to make Wikipedia better for all those years rather than just staying it's an unreliable source.
