@fortune Verisign has 100% uptime for hosting .com, .net, and .org since like 1999-ish because they use:

- different network gear in each rack
- different server models in each rack
- different OSes on servers in each rack (Linux, FreeBSD, and Solaris, but I believe they've retired Solaris recently)
- different DNS software in each rack (BIND, NSD iirc, and ATLAS, their own internal NS software)

If you want stability, you need to work hard to ensure bugs and security issues don't affect everything hosting the service.
