@firaas @jahway603 I just compiled LibreWolf from source with my new laptop: HP Omen 15, it took around one hour and I am happy with it now. Do you know an alternative for Android too?

I just bought my first laptop: HP Omen 15! A nice upgrade from my E5500 CPU!

So.. I've got 1 Windows box (which I barely use) .. and 2 Debian boxes (my daily drivers).

There's ESET NOD32 (don't like the free ones) on all of them and the license is about to expire. Should I renew it?

I mean.... there was not a single incidence with malware/viruses since I purchased the AV. Which may be because I (usually) know what I'm doing and acting paranoid af.

On the other hand... better save than sorry πŸ€”

what's your opinion?

The smartctl command shows bad sectors on my hard disk. Also the noises I hear lately are not a good sign. Time to buy a another one and this time I will use a SSD disk as my storage partition as I use a media server to put all my stuff so I don't need a lot of space.

Manjaro will fly on this system!

Now, I have to do the list of all the apps I've installed:

for app in /usr/share/applications/*.desktop; do echo "${app:24:-8}"; done

"You are the chosen one."
"You. The evil god wakes. Without you, he cannot be defeated."
"What must I do?"
"Ask your grandmother to come out of retirement."
"She's the ultimate warrior."
"But... Why don't you ask her?"
"She is scary!"
"She's not!"
"We chose wisely."

Good bye, Daft Punk. Many years with your music. Be assured that we are now harder, better, faster and stronger. Thank you. invidious.048596.xyz/watch?v=D

Hmmm, I got an e-mail from FedEx saying the expected delivery on my tea shipment is 2021-02-20 by the end of the day. That's the current date in my time zone. The package is still in Pennsylvania, which is two or three states away from me.

Either someone fucked up or Speed Racer got a job at FedEx.

@swashberry PeerTube lacks a coherent, intentional community of video creators. Although there are people out there uploading stuff, there's a never-ending flood of second-hand garbage being uploaded to the network. It's actually a horrible situation, and drains any motivation to use it.

My theory is this: if you develop a small, isolated pocket community where a bunch of dedicated creators are all on the instance, you increase the incentive for them to keep coming back and making new videos. By cultivating a small, dedicated community, you can create a definite source for subscribers on other instances to watch and engage with, thus growing an actual community.

Initially, federation would be done at the subscription level, but as similar communities emerge, federation could be bumped up to the instance level (PeerTube can do both). The latter opens up greater discovery between instances, while reducing the amount of crap.

Wow, the video editor Olive looks promising. I usually use Shotcut but I'm going to install it to test if it works as we can see on the first impressions of some users.

It has also versions for all the major platforms apart from GNU/Linux.

A dad joke:

- I need to buy curtains for my computer.
- But... Why?
- Because it has windows.

Honest question

People who have worked through a ton of baggage, trauma, and self-loathing to become stronger, more resilient, and more confident: what did you do to change your situation? How did you heal?

I think a lot of my problems result from unresolved trauma and not a lot of self-love, but I'm not really sure what good steps are.

The alternatives to YouTube are growing faster. I've been spent time on Lbry for months and I've seen how the number of views of the streamers I follow are rising very fast. Some of them had in the past 10 or 15 views per video months ago and now they've got 60-70 views per video.

Those are ridicolous numbers if you compare them to YT but show a good tendence.

I'm wondering if there is a way of "donating" part of my upload bandwidth, that I rarely need, to services like or others. Can I install an instance on my server and "mirror" other instances or help them in any other way to deliver content via my upload?

Scaling down the homelab is quite fun, from larger machines to smaller ones.

Dear software engineers and web developers:

When I get an error code from one of your programs and am presented with a "More info" or "Learn more" link, I expect this link to interpret said error code for me or at least present a hint as to what may have caused it.

I do **NOT** want to be presented with an article telling me how to troubleshoot the software.

I do not want to troubleshoot the software. That is your job. Just tell me what the goddamn code means. You should know; you wrote it.
