Why do we accept incompetency and complacency in our society?

It wasn't long ago that people took pride in their work.

Encryption doesn't mean encryption.

It is a code word for freedom of speech, a free press, and the preservation of human rights ✊

Encryption can be complicated — so here's a quick run-down of how it works, and which type is the best for staying safe and secure online.

I discovered that you can tell Twitter you're not interested in trending topics and I couldn't be happier.

"Donald Trump did -"
Don't care.

"The state of Georgia is -"
Don't need to know, don't live there.

"The war in Ukraine -"
Ah-ah-ah, fool me once...

"Please care about politics."
Never again.

The world still wants freak shows, they're just too afraid to admit it.

Just had a question about this, thought it might be useful to answer as a post:

There are lots of different server types on the Fediverse, but they talk to each other using a common standard called ActivityPub.

This means you don't need to be on the same server type to interact.

For example, if you're on a Mastodon server you can have a conversation with someone on a Friendica server.

This works even when the server types are very different. People on Mastodon etc can like, comment and share videos from @peertube or follow livestreaming accounts on @owncast. (To see examples, take a look at @FediVideos)

This process is so seamless that you may not even be aware you're interacting with people from other server types. If you're a Mastodon user, try clicking on @bobfisherphoto and it will look like a Masto account, but it's actually a @pixelfed account. To see what an account "really" looks like, click on the avatar on its profile page.

I guess I can't vote, but I have reverted back to light mode all the time over the last couple weeks. It's kind of refreshing.

After spending a few days with flatpaks and appimages, all I can say is "This is the margarine of application deployments"

Native is by far best. Appimage comes second for me, flatpak is a little behind, and snap is absolute trash. Snap is the "margarine flakes" of application packages.

My buddy works for EA Games and is leaving for a better position soon and he grabbed me F1 '22 for Xbox before he left! Love me some Formula 1 and already streaming a race weekend on twitch :amongustwerk: :amongustwerk:

Spent the whole day programming VBA for Excel to make things easier like an app for my coworkers. Ran into some snags but in the end I'm happy with the result. Everything works and it keeps the workbook clean.

If you're on the Fediverse and you want to host code for libre software and other collaborative projects, you might want to check out @gitea:

gitea.io

It's free, open source and it's currently in process of adding Fediverse compatibility through ActivityPub, the same standard that Mastodon etc use to communicate with each other.

You can see some of the Gitea instances that already have experimental Fediverse connections listed at fedidb.org/software/gitea

If you're just looking for a Gitea instance to join, there's @codeberg at codeberg.org

To see the current state of federated forges, have a look at the @forgefriends blog post at forgefriends.org/blog/2022/06/

So I finally got around to registering Librelife.ca to start my group of companies, or rather unite them.

Now I can setup all of my services on my home server like Mastodon, Owncast, NextCloud, Writefreely, Wordpress, Plex and maybe even lemmy. Quite excited to create a more trusted option for my friends and family.
